Washington, D.C., October 31, 2024 (Embassy of Saint Kitts and Nevis) – The Embassy of Saint Kitts and Nevis in the United States hosted an exclusive Embassy Night event, welcoming more than two dozen members of the National Press Club (NPC) International Correspondents Committee. The gathering served as an opportunity to engage the media and highlight the Federation’s ambitious vision of becoming the world’s first sustainable island state.
Her Excellency Ambassador Jacinth Henry-Martin addressed the attendees, sharing insights into the nation’s commitment to sustainability. “We are delighted to showcase the beauty of our islands and our aspirations to lead as a sustainable island state. Imagine the global impact if every country embraced this goal,” she remarked. “As we celebrate the 41st anniversary of our independence, we continue to view the United States as an ally, a partner, and a friend.”
Shanelle Simmonds, Counsellor and Alternate Representative for Saint Kitts and Nevis to the Organization of American States (OAS), also addressed questions from NPC members regarding the Federation’s sustainability efforts. She underscored climate change as the nation’s greatest challenge. “When a storm strikes, it can be devastating, forcing us to rebuild time and again,” Simmonds explained.
The event immersed guests in the vibrant culture of Saint Kitts and Nevis through Caribbean music and an exquisite culinary experience. Kittitian Chef, Alaric Arache, curated a menu featuring Brimstone Hill Saltfish Balls with aioli sauce, Oualie Oxtail Sliders, and Banana Bay Crab Johnnycakes.
During a toast, Ambassador Henry-Martin emphasized the event’s purpose: “Tonight is about promotion, networking, and the sharing of information on adventure, investment opportunities, history, leisure, relaxation, and local flavors.”
The Embassy Night series fosters connections between journalists, communicators, ambassadors, and diplomats. Previous events have been hosted by the embassies of Australia, Lithuania, Rwanda, the Dominican Republic, and Taiwan.
To conclude the evening, NPC President Emily Wilkins of CNBC presented Ambassador Henry-Martin with the club’s official mug as a token of appreciation for hosting the event.
