Her Excellency Dr. Thelma Phillip-Browne, Ambassador to the United States of America, and His Excellency, Ian “Patches” Liburd, Permanent Representative to the United Nations, today joined the St Kitts Nevis Tri-State Association in Philadelphia for its 2nd Annual Flag raising ceremony at the Philadelphia City Hall, to commemorate the federation’s 38th Anniversary of Independence.
Also in attendance were Romana-Lee Akiyama, Deputy Director Office of Immigrant Affairs, Honorable Stanley Straughter, Chairman Emeritus Mayor’s Commission on African and Caribbean Affairs and Honourable Jannie Blackwell, Chairperson from Mayor’s Commission on African and Caribbean Affairs.
Sheila Hess, City Representative, City of Philadelphia delivered the proclamation on behalf of James F. Kennedy, Mayor of the City of Philadelphia. The proclamation recognizes Monday, September 20th, 2021 as St. Kitts and Nevis’ Independence Day in the City of Philadelphia.
The Ambassadors were accompanied by Ms. Shanelle Simmonds, First Secretary/ Alternate Representative to the Embassy and Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis and Mr. Alva Pemberton, Diaspora Affairs Officer, St. Kitts and Nevis Consulate in New York.
The Federation of St Kitts and Nevis celebrated its Independence on September 19th, 2021 under the theme Adapt, Diversify, Recreate: Independence 38.
