St. Kitts & Nevis 20th Annual Independence Picnic Award

20 years ago, an idea was born to have a Picnic/Reunion to celebrate St. Kitts and Nevis annual Independence in Atlanta, Georgia. Four individuals, Irving Williams, Linda Clarke, Rosalyn Charles and Flo Baptiste spearheaded the event and, to date, the four of them have continued the effort to bring together our Nationals in a peaceful, joyous celebration.

On September 28, 2019, we had a great 20th anniversary in orchestrating this year’s Independence celebration. There was an abundance of food and drinks, thanks to the many Nationals who unfailingly provide them each year. Our one-and-only DJ Choice One kept us dancing with our local, upbeat music. As always, we had great participation from our sisters and brothers from our twin islands.

Thanks to Pat Johnson who, year after year, manages the children’s games. Thanks also to Patrick Charles and Melvin Griffin who work in the background to ensure the facilities are ready for our enjoyment. Many thanks to Brenda Thompson who provided the beautiful plaques in appreciation of our dedicated service coordinating the annual Independence Picnic, and for Ambassador Thelma Phillip-Browne for presenting them to us. Finally, thank you, Madam Ambassador, for providing the St. Kitts and Nevis paraphernalia for everyone to enjoy.

We should all feel good that our initial effort in 2000 has blossomed into an event that is anticipated year after year. To all our Nationals, we say, Thank you for another great year. To us, we say, Congratulations. We did a job well done!
